Ganesh

Ganesh Bhagvan is depicted as short with a big belly, four hands and an elephant head.  In each of his hands he holds a Paasha (noose), Modaka (bowl of sweets), Ankusha (an elephant goad), and Padma (lotus). He is said to be red in color but often considered yellow.  He is the son of Parvati (Durga) Devi and Shiva Bhagvan; and the younger brother of Skanda (Kartikeya).

Ganesh Bhagvan is the presiding deity of wisdom and the remover of obstacles. Due to these attributes he is the most popular deity for students to pray to for the attainment of knowledge. He is the first deity to be worshipped in all Pujas.
